Client: Levolux
Project Name: Royal Free Hospital - Pears Building
End Client: NHS Foundation Trust
Main Contractor: Willmott Dixon
The Pears Building is a new ultra-modern research facility located at the Royal Free Hospital campus in north London, UK.
The £60m ($85.1m) building was jointly developed by the Royal Free Charity, the University College London (UCL) and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
Through this installation, we contributed to bolstering NHS efforts to combat the COVID-19 threat. Completing the new facility on schedule extended beyond standard contractual obligations, becoming the responsibility of every contractor involved. While the installation itself appeared straightforward, navigating the logistical challenges amidst travel and work restrictions imposed by the UK lockdown proved considerably daunting. We collaborated closely with numerous external trades, including scaffolders, window contractors, ground workers, bricklayers, and HVAC engineers working on the roofline. Compounded by limited site storage space and meticulously scheduled deliveries, down to the smallest components, the project's complexities became evident. Additionally, relying on site team coordination for the installation of high-level acoustic louvre panels, amidst weather risks during lifting operations, posed further challenges. Despite these obstacles, we provided comprehensive documentation of site progress and delays to assist our client in effectively managing additional costs.
